The Government has a Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who are not otherwise entitled to a statutory free school meal. In Tower Hamlets, in addition to the Government’s infant free school meals, the Mayor’s funding has been extended to pupils in Years 3 to 6 who attend a Tower Hamlets school and do not already qualify under the statutory free school meals scheme.
The additional funding for this project – only one of a handful across England, has been provided by the Mayor in recognition of the importance of eating healthily in school. It is really important to ensure that if your child is entitled to a statutory free school meal that this is still claimed through your school, or the school will miss out on vital Government funding, which provides money for improving facilities and staffing in Olga. If you are in any doubt that your entitlement please be sure to speak to the school office who will be very happy to assist you.
If your child is in Nursery, then they will only receive a free meal if they are entitled to Free School Meals (FSM). The school office will confirm this with you. If you are not entitled to FSM then you will have to pay for your child’s lunch.
From September 2026 Olga will be moving to the Tower Hamlets Contract Catering Services to provide school meals. Mark and the team will be working closely with them to ensure that our children receive a tasty and nutritionally balanced meal each day. Please see below a welcome letter from Jenny Pittam, head of Catering Contract Services and the current menu for September - October.
